In the nineteen seventies and -eighties, rebel groups attempting to overthrow the Oman government took
control over parts of the country on the Arabian peninsula. In order to raise funds and to establish
themselves as rightful rulers, stamps were issued under the names 'State of Oman' and 'Dhufar'. In 1980, a set of prehistoric animals was issued under both names. Both issues consist of eight values in a sheet (perforate and inperforate) and an inperforate miniature sheet. 'Used' covers exist, but all are addressed to a stamp dealer. . .
