2 l., Stegosaurus,
7 l., 'Edaphosaurus',
25 l., Diplodocus, 50 l., Triceratops, 2 R., Pteranodon, 5 R., Tyrannosaurus. Miniature sheet 'PRE-HISTORIC ANIMALS', with the two top values imperforate. Archaeopteryx, Rhamphorhynchus, and theropod (Allosaurus) on the margin. Set also imperforate, Michel 401B-406B. Issue date: 31-st of May.
The 'Edaphosaurus' is Dimetrodon. The Tyrannosaurus is probably after R. Zallinger. Much to my surprise, I recently (october 2015) discovered the source of the other pictures, a 1952 book 'The golden treasury of natural history', by B. Morris Parker. The illustrators are listed, but no authorship of individual pictures is given. This discovery allowed the identified of the theropod on the M.S. margin as Allosaurus. The story behind the miniature sheet that I have heard is that it was not ordered, but that the printer made five thousands as promotional material. Although thus probably unofficial, it is quite rare and much sought after. |
